After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation’s board considered canceling the annual Vintner Dinner & Wine Auction. But, given its importance as the Foundation’s main fundraising event and the educational mission it helps to support— and thanks to the active support of our Foundation members, key supporters, and especially the winemakers who so generously support this event year after year — it was decided to proceed with the Foundation’s first-ever “AT HOME” virtual Vintner Dinner & Wine Auction.
The 75-minute online event streamed to registered guests on Thursday, November 12th, and was hosted by Tanji Patton, Emmy Award-Winning Journalist and Host & Producer of Goodtaste with Tanji. The program featured commentary from featured vintners & winemakers, messages from the featured chefs, updates from the leadership of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, The Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, and the George & Barbara Bush Foundation, as well as an online auction of a wide variety of America’s finest wines and one-of-a-kind Bush family memorabilia. The program was created and produced by Mark Burns.
Each wine package included a recipe book specially curated by two top Texas chefs – Chef Jonathan Levine, Jonathan’s the Rub in Houston and Chef Tai Lee, Sôlt in College Station. Guests had the option to purchase prepared five-course entrees from each of the Chef’s restaurants.
Chaired once again by Doro and Bobby Koch, the Bushes’ friends and supporters across America rallied to the cause and helped raise over $300,000.
