2020 Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set — George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush
Release date: December 21, 2020
This new set continues the series of Presidential $1 Coins and bronze medals issued from 2007 to 2016 by honoring George H.W. Bush and First Spouse Barbara Bush.
This commemorative set includes an uncirculated George H.W. Bush Presidential $1 Coin and a Barbara Bush Bronze Medal bearing a likeness of the First Spouse Gold Coin. The coin and medal feature beautiful representations of the President and Mrs. Bush, with issuance information on the back.
The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 required the Secretary of the Treasury to mint and issue $1 coins honoring each of the Presidents of the United States. The series was limited to Presidents who had been deceased for at least two years prior to the issuance of the coin, and the program ended when each eligible former president had been so honored. The Act also created the First Spouse Gold Coin and Bronze Medal series, which authorized a half ounce gold bullion coin and bronze medal of the same design honoring a President’s Spouse during the President’s term of service.
The President George H.W. Bush and First Spouse Barbara Bush Coin Act continues this series. The Mint worked closely with its liaison to the Bush family in developing these designs.
