The Great Broccoli Presentation of 1990
It was March 1990 when Mrs. Bush appeared on the South Lawn of the White House to accept a generous donation of 10,000 pounds of broccoli for the Capital Area Food Bank from the very same folks at Beachside Produce. This was of course in response to President Bush’s declaration that he would no longer eat broccoli now that he was President of the United States! Unlike the President, Mrs. Bush was a broccoli fan and broccoli was a regular on the family menu when the children were growing up.
How much did the President dislike broccoli? We’ll let him tell you all about it. Listen below.
A lot of fun has been had over the years as a result of President Bush’s broccoli declaration, but we are pretty sure both President and Mrs. Bush would be very pleased that his broccoli aversion inspired this latest generous donation of fresh produce to benefit those in need.
